Being out of touch with primary education developments, especially in ICT, was a challenge when I returned home. However I have learned to be much more resourceful - there was a strong emphasis on TALULAR (Teaching and Learning Using Locally Available Resources) in my placement and nothing was wasted. I have been able to integrate much of what I experienced into the way I teach many subjects, especially geography and RE. The school has benefited through its links with different education systems and raised awareness of developing countries. Returned volunteer teachers appreciate their working conditions when compared with those experienced in developing countries - poor pay, lack of resources and large classes.
